Description
This course is a Security Industry Association (SIA) and internationally recognised training course that awards successful students with an Edexcel accredited, level 3 BTEC certificate in Close Protection. This qualification is now required by all major International Security Companies for Close Protection employment both in UK and overseas.
The course is 15 days duration working weekends and some evenings. Course dates are promulgated for the next 12 months but bespoke courses can be arranged for groups or individuals.
The course ensures that all students are qualified and prepared for a successful career as a Close Protection Officer in either VIP or high value asset protection or in providing Close Protection tasks working in high risk, hostile environments.
The course covers the SIA standard core modules;
- Roles and responsibilities of a Close Protection Officer
- Threat and Risk Assessment
- Operational Planning (Includes International travel)
- How to formulate plans, presentations and briefings
- Law and Legislation
- Reconnaissance
- Surveillance (Counter & Anti) techniques
- Search Procedures (Buildings, Vehicles and personal)
- Vehicle Tactics (Defensive driving, anti-ambush drills and vehicle procedures)
- Close Protection Team skills and drills (Foot & Vehicle)
- Route Planning
- Conflict Management
- Static (site security and venue protection) and mobile operations
- Covert weapons and firearms awareness and tactics
- CV writing – Guidelines and assistance in how to access the Industry
The Course is delivered by highly qualified Instructors who are all SIA accredited with a wealth of Global Operational experience. Ex UKSF and Special Operations Police Officers ensure the course is balanced and appropriate with current effective skills taught that includes an invaluable add-on package of Hostile Environmental Awareness Training (HEAT), usually a separate course required for pre-deployment into areas deemed high risk.
The Course package also includes training in:
Unarmed Combat and Physical Intervention.
This requires students to be of a reasonable fitness level as expected within the Industry. Physical training is incorporated within the course aimed at being fun and focused on team building. A standard assessment used to maintain the course integrity is conducted at the start of the course and again at the end. The assessment is based on the UK standard military acceptance level, recognised around the world and by potential clients. This includes:
- Run – 1.5 miles as a group in 15 mins. Followed by 1.5 miles individual best effort, to be completed within 15 mins.
- 25 press-ups within 1 minute
- 35 sit-ups within 2 minutes
- 2 pull-ups (outward facing grip)
- Fireman’s carry (of similar individual weight) for 30 meters
- Grid sprints – 10 x 25m sprints in under 2 minutes
The Physical Intervention package is a standard Industry requirement. This phase of the course is taught by qualified experts who understand the role and responsibilities of a CPO ensuring the techniques taught are usable and fit for purpose.
The package teaches defensive techniques and methods of resolution to a perceived threat. This includes:
- Long Range Combat, use of kicks and defence
- Medium Range combat, strikes – body components used to strike and areas to target
- Short Range Combat, Locks, holds, releases and take-downs
- Weapon Management (blunt and edged weapons), use and disarm techniques
- Firearms management, control of personal weapons and disarming aggressors firearms
NOTE:
Anyone wishing to hold an SIA CP licence must be in possession of either a valid First Aid at Work (FAAW) or First person on Scene (FPOS) certificate.
Korinth provides these training courses that are Edexcel certified and SIA approved. The course can be arranged prior to the CP Course. The course is a four day training course that can be arranged to run consecutively onto the CP Course.
